[GRAPHIC: Ask Super Lawyers, What are my rights if charged with a crime?, Attorney A. Patrick Roberts responds, Thomson Reuters]

A. Patrick Roberts: When you’ve been accused of a crime, you have several important rights. They include the right to remain silent, the right to effective assistance of counsel and the right to a jury trial. At that jury trial, you have the right, before the jury trial starts, to review all evidence that may be used against you in trial. In addition, before you receive that evidence, and shortly after you’ve been charged, you have the right to remain completely silent and not provide any information about your case or any law enforcement investigation whatsoever.
