[GRAPHIC: Ask Super Lawyers, Can I sue a bar for serving someone who caused an accident in Pennsylvania?, Attorney William F. Goodrich responds, Thomson Reuters]

William F. Goodrich: In Pennsylvania, you can sue a bar or a tavern or a restaurant that serves someone while they are visibly intoxicated. This is called Dram Shop Liability, and what it does is offer a hope and a resolution of all claims on behalf of the person who’s been injured by a drunk that this bar, restaurant or tavern let loose on the roads in Pennsylvania. It’s necessary for us, as lawyers, to get involved in the case right away so that we can get our investigators there, sometimes ourselves, going in, talking to people to find out who was there, who saw this guy drinking or this woman, who was bartending that evening, how much did this individual drink. So it’s very important to gather the information and the necessary facts to prove this case to help the person who’s been injured by this drunk.
